Kelly Rowan

Kelly Rowan has over 10 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, most recently as Development Manager with the Charities Review Council. During her six and half years with the Council, Kelly worked closely with staff, board and volunteers to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to expand philanthropic support for the organization’s mission. She managed the Council’s grant-seeking process, annual fund and major gifts programs, and built a robust volunteer and internship program while there.

Prior to her work at the Charities Review Council, Kelly was Citizen Outreach Director for the Fund for Public Interest Research in Chicago, IL and Boulder, CO. She recruited, trained and managed teams to conduct membership and fundraising drives for the Sierra Club, Illinois and Colorado Public Interest Research Groups (PIRG’s), the Human Rights Campaign, and Greenpeace. She organized field campaigns for a variety of environmental and progressive issues, from protecting national forests to passing Hate Crimes legislation, and honed her skills in writing news releases, organizing and speaking at news conferences, building coalitions of civic leaders and elected officials, and running grassroots petitioning drives.

Kelly graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 2001, with a BA in Political Science and a German minor. She studied in Salzburg, Austria, and interned with the U.S. Department of State in Arlington, VA.

Passionate about engaging people in philanthropy and working collaboratively to improve our communities, Kelly volunteers with a variety of progressive causes. She is a strategy cabinet member for GiveMN.org, and also currently serves on the board of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, Twin Cities, where she just completed her second term as chair. Kelly is an alum of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofit's Strategic Connectors Leadership Institute, and is a highly regarded presenter and facilitator who likes to bring people together with innovative and inclusive hosting techniques.
